BEARS. BOOKS. BATTLESTAR GALACTICA. Pronouns: she/her/hersCannonball Read notes with great sadness the passing of our friend and immensely talented writer, Jennifer L. Baxla (baxlala) on Tuesday, July 5th 2022. To honor Jennie, donations can be made in her name to Oak Tree Corner, a support center for grieving children in Dayton, Ohio, a non-profit organization which Jennie loved, and where she volunteered for many years.

I’m afraid that once your heart’s involved, it all comes out in moron.

I’m stuck between “I really liked this one but didn’t love it” and “I sort of loved it but didn’t LOVE LOVE it.” It’s very confusing. So I’m giving this a solid 3.5. Young Jane Young is told from the point of view of three strong female characters so PLUS right there. It has a bit of a Gilmore Girls vibe, as well, between Jane and her daughter, Ruby. It all starts, though, with a young woman named Aviva Grossman, who becomes embroiled in a […]

SO let’s just start this by saying I’m an asshole who used to judge Romance. Not romance, like flowers and candy (except don’t ever buy me either, please) but Romance with a capital R. The Romance with the swooning damsels and charming rakes and heaving bosoms and covers like this:  I judged the shit out of it. I have a confession to make. Though I don’t know if confession is the right word. Confession hints at something one has been hiding for fear of punishment. Or SHAME. And this is nothing to be ashamed of. When I was younger, I read 100 million RL Stine books. I started with Goosebumps and then quickly moved on to Fear Street. I then graduated to Christopher Pike, and started dabbling in Stephen King at WAY WAY too young of an age. I loved RL Stine […]

Magic’s all balderdash and chicanery. I’m afraid we don’t know a bloody thing. Except I seem to be British, don’t I?

I picked this up because A) I wanted to read something fun and B) it turned up on a list of urban fantasy novels when I Googled it and C) when I looked it up on Goodreads, Malin had given it a good review. I’d read and enjoyed a few of the Kate Daniels series, so it was no surprise that this book was great fun, as well. There’s just something really great about throwing magic and werewolves and vampires and beings from other planets […]
