About dAvid

To paraphrase Wynonna: books are my strongest weakness. I love visiting bookshops when I travel and buy tons of books as souvenirs. I finally jumped aboard with CBR10, figuring I should put all of that energy toward helping kick cancer’s ass.

I’ve been waiting for this moment for Cannonball my life, oh Lord

CBR10Bingo: Backlog (Cannonball! and Bingo! Woohoo!) After reading a few Sherman Alexie books a few years ago, Leslie Marmon Silko’s Ceremony started popping up in my suggestions, and for some reason, I thought it was poetry rather than a novel. Once I read the description, I put it on my wishlist, where it languished for several months until I finally bought a copy last summer at The Last Bookstore in downtown Los Angeles on a long lunch break from jury duty. I’ve pulled it off […]

CBR10Bingo: This Old Thing (The Tempest) and Birthday (Hag-Seed) I’m a big fan of Margaret Atwood’s novels. I haven’t read everything she’s written, but I have a shelf full of her books and have loved all but one (sorry, The Heart Goes Last). I always watch for her new releases, and she’s one of the rare exceptions I’ll make to buy hardcover. When Hag-Seed came out a few years ago, I was all excited and ready to buy, until I looked at the cover blurb […]

Because for some of us, books are as important as almost anything else on earth

CBR10Bingo: Throwback Thursday I was all set to read Toni Morrison’s Song of Solomon for my Throwback Thursday square, but I’d been struggling so much recently with my writing that I made a last-minute substitution, needing the pick-me-up that Anne Lamott’s Bird by Bird never fails to deliver. When I decided to get back into writing 13 years ago, Anne Lamott’s Bird by Bird was the first of many books on writing that I bought and read, but so far it’s the only one I’ve […]

Lindsey could practically feel the air getting thicker. It was like humidity, only skankier

CBR10Bingo: Not in My Wheelhouse It wasn’t always like this. In junior high I discovered Stephen King’s short stories before any of his novels. These were my road trip and summer vacation books. I loved that I could read a story or two, put the book away and do something else, and then pick it up later and start fresh with something new. Night Shift and Skeleton Crew and Different Seasons were my gateway drugs to Cujo and The Shining and Misery. I don’t know […]
