Seasons in the abyss

There is no doubt that Slayer was instrumental in creating the thrash metal scene in the 80’s, along with Metallica and the Bay Area bands Exodus and Testament. In their 3 decade long career they have gone on to influence so many bands, in and out of the scene. I’ve seen Slayer play live a couple of times, as it is truly a rite of passage for metalheads, and have my favorite line up (see below) but I don’t own any of their albums*. The first snow has fallen in Oslo and a young boy awakens to find his mother gone, the only trace is her pink  scarf that is tied around the neck of the mysterious snowman that has appeared in the yard. Jonas doesn’t know who built the snowman or why it is facing the house, but he does know enough to be afraid. Meanwhile, Harry Hole is assigned to the case and along with a new transfer from Bergen, Katrina Bratt, they search for clues to […]

Even Becky’s artwork shifts and changes, sometimes using a more manga style […]

Continuing with my rock and roll bio fest, comes this well researched  and enjoyable book about Dave Grohl by Paul Brannigan. Brannigan is a music journalist, used to be an editor for Kerrang! and as such known Dave for well over a decade, right back to the DC punk scene days. This gives the book a real insider feel to it, as they have both lived through and have participated in some real seminal times in rock and punk. Usually I get annoyed with interviewers who interject […]
