I like books, but I'm SUPER picky about them. To clarify- a three star rating means that I liked the book and found nothing objectionable in it. As 3 is the average between 1 and 5 this means the book is an average read, perfectly competent but not outstanding.

This was delivered to the wrong door somehow (the address was TOTALLY right- so I’m not sure why they didn’t deliver it properly) but my lovely neighbor, to whom the amazon people wrongly delivered the package, knocked on my door yesterday and handed it over. Weird, but YAY! I got it. Anyway, thank you, I’m super excited to delve into these.

Everything in life is unusual until you get accustomed to it (Bingo #5 & 6)

The Wizard of Oz is so closely associated with the Great Depression (thanks to the movie) that it’s hard to remember it was actually published almost 30 years before the great stock market crash of 1929. The book has since been adapted and retold numerous times. The sequel to it, published four years later, has also been adapted a number of times (or worked into the adaptations of The Wizard of Oz). Thus, both books could work for the two bingo slots I’m filling today. […]

People have been telling me that I need to read Georgette Heyer’s books for a long time now. I just never really got around to it, I’d make a mental note and then just never pick up one of her books. So, knowing that I would need something for The White Whale slot, I finally picked up one of her books. I have issues, a lot of issues. I don’t know if those issues are singular to The Grand Sophy, but I’m not really willing […]

London’s Own Magician Cop (Bingo #4)

September 26, 2018 by melanir 2 Comments

I would argue that the ‘urban’ part of Urban Fantasy is just as vital to the story as the fantasy part. I mean, could you imagine Kitty Norville outside of the wilds of Denver, or October Daye in any place other then San Francisco? Or perhaps Kate Daniels doesn’t require the damp heat of Atlanta and Sookie Stackhouse would be the same story set outside of her backwater swamp? Does Harry Dresden really need Chicago? (No, LIAR, Yes are the only correct answers here). And […]
