Joe Abercrombie gets a lot of positive reviews for his writing. A while back I tried to read his ‘Best Served Cold’ novel, but I could not get into it. I read his short story ‘Tough Times All Over’ in Rogues and I thought it was a great read. Given that and his reputation, I decided to try The Blade Itself. I did enjoy this book, the characters and the writing. My biggest complaint is that there wasn’t enough plot movement. Even in epic […]
Great start to a new series…
I’m a big fan of Rachel Aaron’s Eli Monpress series. I enjoyed her Paradox series, and so far (for me) this Heartstricker series falls in the middle. It was different, it was fun and I enjoyed seeing Julius (the main character) come into his own. The best part is that Rachel Aaron writes really fast and the next book in the series is coming out later this […]

I give this book 3 stars. Here’s a breakdown…

This book had the difficulty of being the first book I read after finishing the Tower Lord by Anthony Ryan (a 5 star experience). This is also the sixth book in Juliet Blackwell’s Witchcraft Series. It ended up being a nice quick read that helped me move on from Tower Lord. The series is about Lily Ivory, a witch who has a way with textiles- meaning she can get impressions / vibrations from touching them. There is a nice cast of supporting characters, including a talking pet/familiar – Oscar, […]
