CANNONBALL!!!

December 31, 2018 by thewheelbarrow 2 Comments

So, I follow Shea on twitter and really appreciate his brand of humor.  He is a writer for the sports and pop-culture blog The Ringer.  Shea is 100% enthusiastic at all times and gets just as excited for other as he does for himself.  This book is a collection of essays and artwork about the NBA from 1980 to now.  It is full of ridiculous essays like a draft of the greatest fictional basketball players and the comprehensive list of the most disrespectful dunks in […]

It’s unsurprising that I struggled to reach the minimum length for this review, given this is all short stories. Also, unrelated: Cannonball!

My reviewing (and reading) has really taken a nose-dive this year due to work, life, and time management changes. And, with the disruption caused by Hurricane Florence, there’s been a commensurate dip in time spent working on the Cannonball Read database. But – thanks to the indomitable support of MsWas – I’ve been able to make massive strides in this latter project, at least. So this review is cheating, a bit. All of these stories were in Stephen King’s Everything’s Eventual collection of stories, but I […]

Sneaking in with a bit to spare, on a borrowed computer, and one book behind last year’s pace I’m finally posting my last review of Cannonball Read 10. This was the Read Harder 2018 task I was looking least forward to, and I managed to push it off until the last possible moment, but at least I am completing the challenge this year. Task 24 was to “read an assigned book you hated (or never finished)”. In reality I have very few books that I […]

My fifth year as a Cannonballer comes to a close with Janelle Brown’s Watch Me Disappear which centers on Jonathan Flannigan and his daughter, Olive, as they approach the first anniversary of the disappearance and presumed death of matriarch Billie Flannigan.  As Jonathan struggles to make ends meet without the second income of his wife and the delay in the insurance payout because Billie’s body was never recovered Olive begins to have visions that her mother is still alive and wanting to be found. I […]
