Bright Lights, Bay City

I went back and forth on whether to use this as “The Book Was Better” because while Netflix did turn it into a series I hadn’t watched it. Then, while it was dumping rain over the long weekend, I actually watched the series, so that assuaged my guilt and now I can write this review with a clear conscience. So. Altered Carbon. I gave this book three stars, but I honestly went back and forth on that for a while. I decided to give it […]

#CBR10Bingo: So Popular! – Revisiting a favourite (Bingo #9 and #10)

#CBR10Bingo: So Popular! This is my second re-read of Attachments. I first read it back in 2011, and my original review can be found here. Considering how much I loved the book back then (and still do), it’s a fairly short and unenthusiastic review. But it’ll give you the basics of what the book is about. When it came to selecting a book for the “So popular!” square, all ten choices (among the most reviewed books of the ten years on the Cannonball blog) were ones I’d already read […]

Paris is Burning

I’ve known for a while that Paris is Burning is a must-see and I’ve always meant to see it but now that mean to is a will because damn this book is really good. Based on the real life House Xtravaganza immortalized in Paris, The House of Impossible Beauties absolutely transports you. I really, deeply enjoyed this book. It’s a rough read, but worth it. I also very recently finally saw To Wong Foo, Thanks For Everything so in my head the character of Venus was actually John Leguizamo as […]

The Whole Big MacGuffin Enchilada

When I finished reading early 2018’s The Wedding Date, it was great news to read that writer Jasmine Guillory had another book coming out. Thanks to a few specific websites, I really took to reading the “good kind” of romance fiction they recommended (to realize later that most of it has been, is, and always will be wonderful) and Guillory’s books were warm, comforting hugs before bedtime. I liked that food played such a role in her romance fiction.  What you eat means something to […]
