What Obi-Wan Did

February 16, 2016 by Walking Widdershins 3 Comments

Before I begin the review, I should probably confess something. I’m a total Star Wars nut. Have been since I was a youngling. As a wee Gen X’er, I knew Alec Guinness as the wise older Obi-Wan. As a grownup, I was amused by the younger, funner, funnier Obi-Wan of Ewan McGregor. Even if the poor guy was saddled with that horrible Anakin kid. The Obi-Wan of this book is clearly the Ewan McGregor version, as evidenced by the cover shot, as well as the […]

Don’t let the colors fool you

February 2, 2016 by tillie Leave a Comment

ODY-C is based on Homer’s Odyssey in a world where Zeus has killed off most of the men. ODY-C is a genderbent interpretation that’s completely warped out of its own mind in a psychedelic sci-fi god-ruled outer space. I mean the whole thing is nuts. Crazy colors, and sexual innuendos all over the place; think women breaking down doors with giant phallos’ and vagina-like spaceships. But don’t let the colors fool you. This is not an explosion of a book, it’s a slow, heavy journey. […]

I’m continuing down my Elmore Leonard path and was off in search of the next Raylan story. Fire in the Hole is the third story, and it’s contained within this collection. When the Women Come Out to Dance is a collection of Leonard’s short stories, and since Audible suggested it and I’ve loved listening to the other Raylan stories: Pronto and Riding the Rap. (This collection of Elmore Leonard’s short fiction’s title was changed to Fire in the Hole capitalize on its connection to FX’s […]

No country for old men (or anyone really).

“The freedom of birds if an insult to me”. The Judge   Based loosely, very loosely, on historical events, the book tells the tale of a violent youth, known only as “the Kid” who joins a gang of outlaws hired to collect Apache scalps, 100$ a pop. The story isn’t really important though, it simply serves as a framework for McCarthy to showcase and exhibit human violence, and let’s be very clear here, this book is an absolute blood bath. No one is exempt from […]
