I’m so angry at this book. Let me back up and start with all the amazing things this book has going for it. Let’s start with the description that first got my attention: black lesbian steampunk cozy mystery. For real, what’s not to love about that? How about that it’s set in an alternate history where there was no Civil War? Instead of the Civil War, there was a successful slave rebellion that led to the end of slavery in America? How about a late […]
A contemporary royal romance with a twist
In a slightly alternate timeline, where the Wars of the Roses never ended in England, the enmity between the Houses of York and Lancaster is still present. Lady Amelia Brockett, only daughter of the Earl of Kirkham, born and raised proudly in Yorkshire is not having the best Christmas. Her life takes a surprising and […]
Don’t read the summary (it’s weird), just read the book. You can’t summarize the wackiness that is this book.
I bought this book in a $4.95 Audible sale a while back and then just sort of abandoned it, for almost a year. Why did I do that? No idea. I had this fun little book just waiting for me all this time, and I just kept going about my life. Okay, maybe I do have some idea why. The summary of this book both intimidated me and made me go, “Hwah?” Let me break it down for you. Intimidation because: the line of succession […]
Some folks is brushed by the hand o’ God. Some folks brushed by that Other One.
I wanted to like this so much. It sounds so interesting – a supernatural, steam punk adventure with a Gifted Harriet Tubman in an alternate universe. I am so disappointed, because I did not connect with this book at all. It was too gory for my reading pleasure, and I never felt like I had a minute to breath and get to know the characters. Harriet Tubman, in real life, was the kind of badass that puts fictional badasses to shame. I have no problem […]
