I felt stupider after reading this

September 27, 2018 by Aquillia Leave a Comment

I read this a few months ago and am just now reviewing it for CBR10 Bingo. I think it fits best in the ‘Brain Candy’ slot, as I quite like reading psychological thrillers for the ‘escapism’ value–I read them fast and enjoy them then forget about them. This one also fits best under ‘candy’ because it requires no intelligent thought to read. The basic premise is thus: Laura is super posh and a super ‘devoted’ (read: overbearing) mother to her son Daniel, whose only personality […]

Long before Team Edward and Team Jacob, there was Team Poirot and Team Marple

CBR Bingo entry: Brain Candy Back when I was in grade school, I devoured Agatha Christie novels. I didn’t keep track, but I bet I read a good third of the 66 detective novels she wrote in her lifetime, and I was firmly on Team Poirot. Sure, Miss Marple is a sweet old lady, but I preferred the peculiar Belgian detective who was forever getting mistaken for a Frenchman. Nevertheless, I’m not sure whether I ever read Murder on the Orient Express before now. Normally […]

Off to Romancelandia I went to visit Mary Balogh’s Survivors’ Club and check off the Brain Candy square for bingo. The Arrangement is the second book in the series, and I’ll admit that I was a bit put off by which characters […]

#CBR10Bingo: Brain Candy A year ago, Paige’s boyfriend died in a tragic drowning accident, and she is still suffering from nightmares and is known around town as “the girl whose boyfriend died”. She hasn’t been able to even get near a pool since it happened. It seems like everywhere she goes, she gets “the look” of people who don’t really see her, but just associate her with the dead boy she’d dated for two months before his life was tragically cut short. Determined that she […]
