Nice guy ™ can’t get laid. Now featuring the entire history of the Dominican Republic.

What a great title for a book. What a shame that the book does not deal in either brevity or anything that resembles an account of Oscar’s life. This book was an absolute slog to get through. From the overt sexualization of women to the complete lack of plot there was nothing to be gained and certainly no connection to be made with any character. “The next day at breakfast he asked his mother: Am I ugly? She sighed. Well, hijo, you certainly don’t take […]

Project: Catch Up On Review Backlog, review #9 out of 16 So basically, my thoughts on this book are that it made some entry level mistakes, but I enjoyed myself anyway, because it also did some things I really liked. I’ve been having trouble buckling down to actually write this review, so I’ll do what I always do when that happens. Wait 5,000 years to review it and then do a pro/con list. This was one of those books I’ve seen around for years, and always thought I should pick it up, but just never got around to it. I’m glad the trailer of the Netflix movie adaptation came out when it did, though, and finally got me to try it out, because this was a very cute book and otherwise who knows when I would have given it a chance (I tend not to read contemporary very much). To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before follows Lara Jean Song, a […]

Becky Albertalli is three for three.

As always with a Becky Albertalli book, I flew through it. I haven’t read an entire book in a night in quite a long time, but I felt compelled to keep going even though it got pretty late. And then I figured I might as well just finish it. No regrets here! A good time was had. I do think this is my least favorite of her three books, so far, though. Surprisingly, it has nothing to do with Leah herself. Leah is a tough […]
