Gillian Flynn can definitely writer a thriller, and this one was a compelling page turner. I just discovered that I actually read her works in reverse order to her writing them. Sharp Objects is her first novel, followed by Dark Places and book-ended (heh) with Gone Girl. Flynn jumped on my radar like she did for many people, with Gone Girl, so I read it first, then Dark Places mostly because I could get it on audiobook quickly, and finally this one, also on audiobook. You Ever Get Tired of Being Who People Want You to Be, and Not Yourself?
I’m a little late on boarding this train, aren’t I? So I’m sure most of you know the story already (mild spoilers abound in this review): I myself have seen the movie adaptation! Luckily, a pal of mine said that in her opinion, this was her least favorite of Flynn’s books. This tempered my expectations and I am glad it did because I did not love this book. This is a story of rural America in the 1980s, a failing farm, a slain family, […]
