Immediately after finishing Clean Sweep, I started on this one and devoured it whole. I adore everything about this book. And what’s really awesome is that it looks like the series is adding alternate dimensions into its ‘science’ so they can add characters from their other books. (Which is what happens in this one, but they’re from a series I haven’t read yet, so I found out by reading the Goodreads reviews). It’s completely ridiculous ‘science’ and I love it. In this one, Dina is […]
Urban Fantasy with Delusions of Science Fiction. I LOVE IT
Clean Sweep is the start of a new Urban Fantasy series by Illona Andrews, the husband and wife writing team responsible another series that places pretty highly on my favorites list. This one definitely tops that one, and I look forward to many more books to come. Dina Demille is an Innkeeper, which sounds exactly like what it is. Except the clientele she draws from is a lot more intergalactic in scope. And the Inn itself has more in common with the T.A.R.D.I.S. then an earth hotel. Well, […]
Unnecessary “I liked this” headline
As a reviewer, I get to a point with authors I love — and as much as I hate to segregate out certain authors, this is especially pronounced with genre authors who proudly inhabit a particular niche — where I can’t really go too deeply into what I love about their books without feeling like I am repeating myself. They consistently tell witty, exciting, and inventive stories that also manage to keep my crabby inner feminist satisfied by their refreshing lack of misogyny and even casual sexism. They manage this with their (seemingly, through it shouldn’t be) astonishing ability to create female protagonists and side characters who are complex, compelling, and above all, distinguishable from each other. Just like real people! I am pretty sure I […]
