I’m not a parent and not planning on being a parent any time soon, or really, ever. That means I’m probably not the ideal audience for this book, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. I read Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie a few years ago and my favorites parts were the essays woven throughout the narrative. For this reason, I’ve been meaning to pick up some of Adichie’s nonfiction as I figured it would resonate with me. Dear Ijeawele was originally a letter written from Adichie […]
The book I took the most notes on this year: More listening, less lesson-ing.
I know I’ve mentioned my … unique… family situation here before, but just in case: I live with my brother and his two children, since the passing of his wife a few years ago. I’m a main decision maker (read co-parent) for two young, alive persons, which was unexpected and has been…challenging. So, when NetGalley offered me this book, I grabbed it eagerly. Then I read the intro and thought “God I hope so” to all of the author’s claims of helping to create partnerships […]
Oh crap! You’re a condescending jerk.
I was going to wait until I’d actually potty trained my kid to review this, but 1) I need to clear my backlog of reviews, 2) I’m probably not going to get around to potty training in the next two weeks, and 3) my kid has some special needs that may make potty training harder, so even if Glowacki’s method doesn’t work for us it’s not necessarily an indictment of her method. So here we go. Basically the author runs some kind of potty […]
Guess I shouldn’t judge a book by its corny title.
Well, this book was totally not what I expected. There’s a particular genre of book about certain home-related endeavors…I guess I would call it the “Christian blogger” genre. I’m a Christian and I read plenty of blogs, in fact, you could say that some of my best friends are Christian bloggers so obviously I couldn’t possibly have a bias against them – but I still find the entire genre incredibly uninspiring. You can find them about marriage, organizing, homeschooling, parenting, even home decor – do […]
