A is for arms that hold baby tight, while pacing and muttering all through the night.

This is such a fun, stupid book. It’s been on my Goodreads list since I was pregnant (she’s closing in on 2…) and I finally got around to reading it just a couple weeks after a very early but very sad miscarriage, which I thought might be bad timing but it actually turned out to be fine. Which should tell you how seriously Let’s Panic About Babies! does not take itself. It’s basically a spoof of pregnancy/early parenting books. It’s a lightening quick read (although […]

The title of the book pretty much covers it.

3.5 stars, rounded up to 4. I’m really not sure I have 250 words to say about this book. It’s 71 lists about parenthood. They’re not hilarious, but they’re pretty funny. Maybe not laugh out loud, but definitely chuckle out loud. It’s good to know other kids are as weird as mine. On a list of the cool new things you’ll get to do as a parent?   Despite the somewhat foreboding title, this is a great reference book for tackling the innumerable ways children are little buttholes without also being a butthole yourself. One thing I liked about this book was that it spends at least as much time addressing ways to prevent things you’ll need to discipline as it does on how to handle the problems. Half of parenting is just mastering scheduling your life around naptime and getting good at redirecting and making smaller humans think things are their […]

Grace is a married mother of three. Her youngest, three year old Jack, is terminally ill. She has a background in epidemiology. She also is having an affair with her high school boyfriend. An allegation is made by an unknown party, accusing Grace of Munchhausen’s by proxy – making Jack sick in order to get attention from medical personnel. She is horrified to realize that she does perfectly fit the profile of a MBP mother. This book was absolutely heartbreaking, but I absolutely adored it. […]
