Listen to the Farkakte Bird, Bubula. He Has a Story to Tell

July 20, 2018 by lumenatrix Leave a Comment

This is a very sweet book. It really left me with a warm, fuzzy feeling in my heart. I picked it almost at random from the library website because I have been reading a lot of heavy stuff and I wanted something funny to cleanse the palate a bit and, well Yiddish for Pirates sounds funny. It did the trick, but there is a really good, strong story here too. The story is told by a 500-year-old parrot named Aaron. He has lasted this […]

Yo ho, Yo ho, A Pirate’s Life For Me

January 8, 2018 by melanir 2 Comments

I decided to read Treasure Island after I finished the STARS show Black Sails, because I really enjoyed the show and wanted to read the book they got their inspiration from. To be fair, most pirate fiction probably gets their inspiration from this book, but the show actually used characters from the book to tell their story. pirates, sirens, and great banter

April 20, 2017 by Lane Leave a Comment

I fell in love with the idea of this book, the pirate king’s daughter purposely gets herself kidnapped in order to steal a map from rival pirates, and it really did not disappoint. It is a fun romp kind of book, with some decent romance thrown in. The map is actually one-third of a map that will lead to an island where sirens have hidden an enormous treasure. Alosa’s father has asked her to get captured in order to search the ship of a rogue […]

Where there is milk, there is hope

December 13, 2016 by Malin Leave a Comment

While Mum is away on business, it’s up to Dad to make sure that his son and daughter have everything they need. Like milk for their cereal. Dad goes to the shops, but is gone for really rather a long time. When he returns, he explains to his children why he was gone for so long. It’s a story of adventure, danger, space aliens, time travel, vampires, angry South American gods, pirates and the amazing Professor Steg. The entire thing is beautifully illustrated by Chris […]
