There Was a Horse in the Bathroom

March 2, 2018 by Tracy Leave a Comment

This was a weird one. It started off weird and although it made much more sense by the end, I still had to look up explanations for some of what happened. A few questions remain, some of which are too spoilery to describe. Speaking of, how does one describe this book? That’s more than just a rhetorical question – I’m really not sure. The first several chapter seem disjointed, but later you learn how they are all connected (although I still don’t understand the first […]

“We do not know what things look like. We know what things are like. It must be a very limiting thing, this seeing.”

I still love this. The last time I read A Wrinkle in Time was ten years ago. I hadn’t read the book in years before that, and barely remembered it, except for a few images that had burned into my subconscious (the man with the red eyes, for example; the Murry’s vegetable garden and their laboratory; Charles Wallace; and I remembered that I thought it was terrifying). As an adult, I started taking myself and my choice of reading materials far too seriously, staying away from anything too genre, making rare exceptions for Atwood’s Madd Addam series or Tolkien. [I know. Insert eye roll <<here>>] And then about six years ago, I read and loved Iain Banks’s The Wasp Factory, and I started looking into his other books and found that […]

Clone Club

February 13, 2018 by yesknopemaybe 2 Comments

4.5 stars. Y’all should really read this book. I went into it not knowing much, just something vague about clones and murders, but hearing that it was highly recommended. And hoo-boy did it fucking deliver. This was probably my favorite book of the year so far and I’m going to be foisting it upon people for a while. It’s the future and if you die, it’s okay because you probably have uploaded your consciousness and can just be re-downloaded into a new clone body. Six […]
