A Superswing and a Supermiss

March 6, 2018 by Halbs 1 Comment

J. Michael Straczynski is a decorated comic writer and a personal favorite of mine. One of his original creations, Midnight Nation, was the comic that got me back into comics as an adult. I appreciated his thoughtfulness and insight into how people tick. I was excited when he got to co-write the story to the first Thor MCU movie, and I was a big fan of Superman: Earth One Vol. 1.   That book gave us a young Clark Kent, an outsider who wanted to do good but didn’t know […]

Bond understands the characters of Lois Lane, Clark Kent, and that annoying itch to do the right thing, even if it’s not safe or convenient. The setting, high school, provides appropriate stakes for Lois’ origin story. She risks a lot to do good. It may not be the end of the world if she fails in her mission in the book, but there are real consequences. Finally, it was a fun […]

What even is this nonsense I just wrote.

Okay, so, context: 1. Superman is my favorite superhero. I have been smitten since watching the old Fleischer Technicolor Superman cartoons my dad bought me on VHS when I was five years old, but the big oaf became a life-long love in 1994 when Lois & Clark premiered on TV. Each iteration I’ve seen since has only made me love the character more (excepting Man of Steel and its sequel, which do not represent anything that I love about the character, which in fact actively takes […]
