I would do anything for you, but I won’t do that

Actually, the title of this review is a complete misnomer. The Song of the Lioness Quartet is a series of four books about a girl named Alanna and her friends and family who work towards helping her become the first lady knight in the Kingdom of Tortall. A few of them know she’s a girl, most just believe her to be a really small boy. No one cuts her any slack. The first of the books is (quite originally!) Alanna: The First Adventure. It’s about the time Alanna spends […]

There is magic in the weaving.

Sandry’s Book is the first book of Tamora Pierce’s I’ve read that wasn’t set in Tortall, and I enjoyed it very much. It was a compact, precise little book all about people coming together. And, you know, magic and stuff. Fair warning, though. My reading of the book probably suffered because it was my second book in the 24 Hour Readathon a couple of weeks ago. I was highly buzzed on coffee for the first half of the book, and during the second I was […]

A fitting end, even if I’m not happy about it. At all. Except for I’m happy with most of it except for that one part that was AWFUL AND HORRIBLE AND I HATE IT. And the rest of it was great, but I’m bitter. In case you can’t tell, I’m a little too emotional to give this a proper review. I have no idea what I’m about to type. First things first: until THAT THING happened, this was hands down my favorite book in the […]

I suppose it was sort of inevitable that I wouldn’t like this one as much as I enjoyed Terrier, but I felt Bloodhound (the second book in Pierce’s Beka Cooper trilogy) had some structural and pacing issues that hampered my enjoyment. Bloodhound picks up a year and a half after the events of the last book. Beka has been an official Dog now for almost a year, but she can’t keep a partner. They’re either incompetent or can’t keep up with her. And then she gets saddled with […]
