When that ticking clock does more than keep you up at night….

It seems appropriate that I finished my cbr10bingo for #The Book Was Better? on Halloween as it was a scary(ish) book called The House with a Clock in Its Walls by John Bellairs. I think I read this as a kid about thirty years ago. This is probably why I have no real memory of it. Therefore, I was reading it for the first time. I had hoped to read it as the movie just came out. And while I am not a Jack Black fan, […]

Emma Thompson is a goddess and should always be treated as such. Oh, and BINGO.

Rachel Chu is an economics professor in New York. Her boyfriend of two years, Nick Young, a history professor at the same university, invites her to go to Asia with him for the summer, to attend his best friend’s wedding. Rachel has no idea that Nick’s family is one of the wealthiest […]

The book was better? Yes, yes it was…but the movie was really fun too.

In lesser hands, a novel about a girl, Lara Jean, having her secret letters she wrote to each of her five crushes accidentally mailed out, would be a fun but slight high school romp of a story. But author Jenny Han delivers something even better with “To all the Boys I’ve Loved Before”. Sure, this is a romance but more than that, it’s a story about sisters, family and the subtle way grief lingers and shapes us. Relatively sheltered and an introvert, biracial Lara Jean is […]
