I steamed through the remaining books of The Parasol Protectorate series and then came to a screaching halt when it came time to write the reviews. It’s not because the books aren’t fantastic, its because I’m easily distractable. The series is a fun read. I highly recommend. Lady Alexia Maccon, neé Tarabotti, is a preternatural living in steampunk Victorian England. Her husband is the Alpha of London’s werewolf pack and the head of the Bureau for Unnatural Registration (BUR), and sits on the Queen’s Shadow […]
An interesting letdown
This book has quite literally been at the top of my TBR list for two and a half years. I gobbled up The Rook at the very end of 2013 and proceeded to fall madly in love with Myfanwy Thomas and the secret magical world of The Checquy (basically England’s bureau of magical law enforcement). I always knew whatever direction the sequel took, it would have to be pretty different from The Rook. You can only have your main character lose her memory once. Stiletto […]

I’m about a week and a half out of finishing this one (which is actually unique, I tend to review immediately after finishing so the thoughts are all still fresh. But I was on vacation and have quite a backlog of books to review, oops) and I’m […]

James Stark, Sandman Slim, the monster who kills monsters, is a testosterone fueled, angry, white, cis, het male anti-hero that a feminist can feel good about loving. Stark is a nephilim, half human, half angel, hated by almost everybody. He has been a punk kid magician, a gladiator in Hell, an assassin, Lucifer, and a PI. He hates bullies and the entitled rich. He is fighting an endless battle against human and angelic forces that use up and abuse human lives and souls. But he’s […]
