King Gansey

I always find it hard to review the last book of a series, mostly because I so hate knowing that I’ve spent over 1,000 pages with a cast of characters that I have to leave behind. And I will absolutely miss the Raven Boys and their psychic battery, Blue. Stiefvater’s greatest feat was creating such lovable and relatable characters out of personalities that could have easily wandered into cliche or become incredibly annoying. The Mysterious Benedict Society by Trenton Lee Stewart (2007) – I never really understood the YA (Young Adult) and MG (Middle Grade) labels on books until I read this.  With Harry Potter and the young heroes in Andre Norton’s books, the protagonist is a kid (and kids love to read them); however, they are not strictly YA or MG.  The reason is the writing style.  Trenton Lee Stewart shares an exciting adventure of four unique heroes, but the writing is simple and straightforward.  No complex […]

Well, this book was adorable. Unabashed comic book geek Graham has been in love with his across the alley neighbor Roxana since she moved in when she was eight and asked him which Hogwart’s house he belonged to. They’ve grown up together, they write comics together, and spend almost every waking moment together. But Roxy has no idea how Graham truly feels about her, so Graham cooks up a plan to reveal his feelings at New York Comic Con, and not just at Comic Con, […]

“I fight every day, and too many times it’s just not enough and the fear wins. I’m so fucking weak and everything is so fucking intense and sometimes I really hate it…”

Queens of Geek is a cute story about three friends attending a convention in California, SupaCon. The two girls narrate the story. Charlie is a YouTube celebrity and rising movie star. Her career is the reason they are there. She wants to do publicity for her movie and show her fans that she’s over her relationship with her ex-boyfriend, costar Reese. She starts to fall for a fellow YouTuber, Alyssa, and things get complicated when Reese shows up. Meanwhile, Taylor has anxiety and Asperger’s, so […]
