Eleanor and Park Redux #CBRBingo

November 29, 2018 by narfna 4 Comments

So I have to write eleven reviews in less than two days if I’m going to make the CBR Bingo deadline, so this and the next ten reviews will probably be short. This was my second time through Eleanor & Park, and I picked it up because I had already read all the books in the So Popular! bingo category, and had recently re-read Attachments, so this book, why not! It’s still great, first of all, but also, it’s still my least favorite Rainbow Rowell […]

#CBR10Bingo: Fahrenheit 451 – The Hate U Give

October 29, 2018 by Malin Leave a Comment

#CBR10Bingo: Fahrenheit 451 (one of the ten most banned or challenged books in 2017) Starr feels like she’s living two lives, and in a way she is. She goes to a prestigious private school along with her siblings, where they are among the only black students. She has a white boyfriend, who calls her “Fresh Princess”, thinking she’s a bit like Will Smith in The Fresh Prince of Bel Air. She lives in a poor and rough neighbourhood, where drug dealing and gun violence isn’t unusual. Her […]

Not as good as book one, but still worth reading.

I am sad to say that this book was not as good for me as the first one. I still loved the characters a lot, and there were still all these great, small moments peppered throughout the book. Lara Jean’s family continues to warm my heart. Peter continues to be a huge doofus. Lara Jean is a fashion icon. Some spoilers below, so be warned. I just thought this book was a little weak. Where the first book had at the center of it the whole […]

“It’s not like in the movies. It’s better, because it’s real.”

I will be using this review for the “The Book Was Better?” square in CBR10 Book Bingo. “Love is scary: it changes; it can go away. That’s the part of the risk. I don’t want to be scared anymore…” I admit it: I watched the Netflix movie before I read the book. I have a weakness for teen rom-com cheesy goodness, the waiting lists at the library were massive, and I really wanted to know what all the Buzzfeed stories were about. Of course, I […]
