The 50 You Didn’t Know You Needed

June 6, 2018 by Julia in Austin 10 Comments

How to Bang a Billionaire by Alexis Hall is like 50 Shades, if 50 Shades were Gay (do I have your attention now?) Actually set in the UK (no real American uses the word ‘clamber’) Main characters are both into BDSM (though this book doesn’t have much of it) Laugh out loud funny (intentional) Beautifully written (really) Profound (proof to come) Arden St. Ives is about to sit for his exams at Oxford (for Americans: he’s about to graduate from university, not just end the […]

I don’t even know where to start with this one. I’m not usually a true crime person and will admit I was first intrigued by this because my favorite comedian Patton Oswalt was Mr. Michelle McNamara for the 10 years prior to her death. I really enjoy these kinds of “historical short story” non-fiction books. This book is in the same vein as Jennifer Wright’s books and I was all over those so this is right up my alley. Tori Telfer goes back through the ages, and around various parts of the world to pretty much debunk the myth  presented by FBI profiler Roy Hazelwood in 1998; namely that there are “no women serial killers.” She has any number of women here in this book that handily fit the […]

A Sci-Fi Crime Procedural Series

May 30, 2018 by thewheelbarrow 1 Comment

So, I’ve read a handful of John Scalzi and I’ve really liked everything that I’ve read.  I bought Lock In on Audible a little while ago.  Then Head On was about to come out so I listened to Lock In and immediately pre-ordered Head On.  I think I finished Head On, the audiobook mind you, the day after it came out.  I ate lunch in my car for two days to listen to it.  I played it while washing dishes.  I couldn’t put it down. […]
