Dear Pierce Brown, I love you, but sometimes I don’t like you all that much.

May 17, 2016 by Even Stevens 6 Comments

Man, you guys. I liked this book overall, but sometimes it was rough going. The third installment in the Red Rising trilogy, this book wraps up the storylines of all the characters we’ve come to know over the last two books. Seriously every  damn character. I think Brown used his down time in between books 2 and 3 to attend the George R.R. Martin School of Overwriting for Serious Writers. Brown is at his best when he’s exploring the politics of the worlds and the […]

Shut Up, Cotton Mather

May 11, 2016 by Elora D 1 Comment

Seriously, though, Mather, just shut up already. You don’t live in Salem Village or Salem Town. You weren’t one of the judges during the trials. You keep butting your nose in and writing pamphlets no one asked for and vacillating like a see-saw and just generally being a ponderous Puritan pest. This is book #3 in a trilogy, so if you want to take a look at my thoughts on the first and second books you can go here and here. Obviously, SPOILERS AHEAD.   We pick up with Ruby and the gang a few weeks after the bombings in L.A. Pretty much everyone is still trying to use the kids for their own gain, so Ruby and co. hatch a plan to get to the safe house and ditch their Children’s League companions who seem to have less than […]

Welcome Uninvited Guests

May 2, 2016 by sarah_jwh Leave a Comment

This review is for the audiobook version of The Uninvited, by Cat Winters read by ?. This book took me a while to get into, slumped a bit in the middle, and then got better at the twist (which I should have seen coming) and ended fabulously. We begin with Ivy Rowan waking from being with with the Spanish Influenza, during the first World War, to find her father and brother have killed a German man that lives in their town. The Rowan women have […]
