Grace Burrowes, bless her heart, makes us wait…and wait…and wait until these sad, stubborn survivors find their way to their Happily Ever After. And the wait is absolutely excruciating…but worth it. If you like Burrowes’ work in general and/or Scotland in particular, or if you just need a good wallow, you will not want to miss this book. Just be sure you have a box of tissues or three on hand.
Full review is up at Heroes and Heartbreakers.
What a great review! I’ve tried several Grace Burrowes but she’s not my cup of tea. Maybe I’ll try again.
Thanks, Mrs. J! I love most Burrowes — She’s had one or two that I found to be more miss than hit, but this is a good one.
By the by, I’m a big fan of your Kresley Cole “ThunderSex(TM)” reviews. I’ve never read any Cole, but as a blogger for H&H I’m very…aware of her, I guess you could say. If you haven’t read any J.R. Ward, her Black Dagger Brotherhood novels are similarly over-the-top ridonkulous yet strangely addictive.
I find Burrowes is a little too into precious bodily fluids for my taste.
Thank you for your kind words. I find it fascinating that Cole’s books get more extreme and offensive with every release.
You had me at Scotland. I’ve never read Burrowes but I love a good Scott. And something about this time of year makes me yearn for a good angstie romance.
I also love/hate Ward books although they’re more on my “pick them up at the library” list. I find myself skimming too often or even laughing out loud at the slang. I mean given all the leather these dudes are wearing, it’s surprising there’s a cow anywhere within 5,000 miles of their homo-erotic sex mansion ;) I still like Cole but everything Mrs. Julien says is 100% true. Cole has some sexy spy novella series available on Kindle, I’ve been meaning to check that out too.
Alexis: I know, right? The BDB is my Secret Shame (well, not so secret anymore, I guess). Ward had me at Rhage-with-an-H who turns into a dragon when he’s feeling upset. I can’t quite quit her, even though her last few novels haven’t been quite up to snuff.
Will need to check out Cole’s spy novellas. ThunderSex(TM) notwithstanding, Lothaire et al. seem as though they’d be a bit…much for me, but I might like the spy stuff better. Thanks for the rec!
