And, in case you’re curious, here’s what the next slate of 13 will include: Thank You for Smoking, The Goon Vol. 2, Hellboy Vol. 2, Blueprints for Building Better Girls, The Goon Vol. 0, Batman: Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader?, Time Traveller’s Strictly Clash, Quick Service, Fell Vol. 1, The Goon Vol. 3, The Goon: Noir, Mike and Psmith, and Y: The Last Man Vol. 1. Care to place bets on which of those managed the only 4 out of the group?
Go Travis!
I see some recommendations from other Cannonballers on that list, so well done!
More will follow, too! Heartburn, Wonder, and The Crane Wife will be in the set of 13 following the next one. Also, The Stand and Swan Song are two of the three books I put a hold request in for yesterday, since I’m down to just one book left from the library (The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes). As long as I can resist requesting more books before I get a chance to finish those two, I should have them both finished before they’re due. When I get around to reviewing them, however, is anybody’s guess. xD
You make some good points about No Hero (it’s definitely one of Ellis’ lesser works), but I have to admit that the spine thing made me laugh out loud when it happened. That probably makes me a bad person. On a side note, if you haven’t already, you should definitely check out Ellis’ good stuff: Transmetropolitan, Planetary, Nextwave, Global Frequency. Fell isn’t bad, but it’s more moody than good.
I would wager that Y The Last Man gets the sole four-star in your upcoming batch. At least I hope so, IMHO it’s one of the best comic series in recent memory.
Transmetropolitan is one of those graphic novel series I feel I should read, yet which I’m in no hurry to get to because I don’t expect I’ll like it all that much. Though, I was the same way about Y: The Last Man and that’s turning out to be a surprisingly pleasant read, so who knows?
P.S. No, that doesn’t make you a bad person. It’s not like he then used the spine penis to rape someone. It was more than a tad ridiculous and gory, but it’s not like you’re going to go to hell for finding it amusing.
