Sandman Slim – I LOVE this book! – brilliant, dark, witty, sharp, dirty, irreverent and hilarious. The first of a series -although this book stands on its own. However, I dare you after reading it to not want to grab the next one in the series!
I have read the hard copy 2X and listened to the Audible version 2X. The narrator on Audible has a wonderfully raspy delivery – snarky and hilarious and totally rude. Love it. “Dark and dirty ass masterpiece” says William Gibson….totally right on with that.
Sandman Slim – also known as “Stark” – has just escaped from 11 years in Hell – he was betrayed and sent there by his no-good “friends” in the occult “Sub Rosa” organization. The book starts with him arriving from Hell in a pile of burning garbage in Los Angeles. Difficult to tell the difference in some cases between Hell and Los Angeles – especially the dark places that Stark inhabits.
This is a dark and gritty Urban Fantasy – LA gothic noir and dark dark magic. Lots of irreverent religious overtones, so if you are sensitive to that, perhaps not the book for you . However if you were raised in the catholic church and are a bit “lapsed” – perhaps just the book for you … your call.
Stark survived Hell by fighting Hellions in the arena – and earned the title “Sandman Slim” – unkillable and brutal and wickedly funny. He is out for revenge on those who sent him “downtown”, killed his girlfriend and who seem to be planning something even worse – like the end of the world.
