Serena_PB_300_450I haven’t seen Winter’s Bone yet, but while reading this, I kept wondering how audiences were going to react to Jennifer Lawrence, America’s sweetheart, as a ruthless bitch.  Set in a logging camp in 1929 North Carolina, Serena is a hard woman with no time for sentimentality, and there are definitely things about her to admire.  She holds her own among the men,and is often the smartest person in the room.  She knows more about logging than most if not all of the men, and she and her husband are equals in their marriage, both passionate and ambitious.  However, Serena won’t let anything stop her, and as a result, the further the novel progresses the more people fall victim as they oppose or stand in the way of Serena and George Pemberton’s ambitions.  Full review.

I figured with Malin hitting 52, it was time to buckle down and actually finish all my partially written reviews/actually post them on the group blog and not just let them sit on my personal blog. Ever since they’ve changed the security settings on the computers at work, I actually have to remind myself to add updates to CBR when at home.

I think I thought Travis may have had a point with his comment about us ruling the roost, so when I got a little behind on reviews, I didn’t rush myself to catch up because I wanted to give someone else a chance. You were behind on reviews, too, so I wasn’t feeling too competitive :p
