This review will be woefully inept as I finished this book over a month ago. I remember really liking it but I was surprised I gave it four stars rather than five.
This is Tina Fey’s autobiography and the audiobook is narrated by Tina. If I read this book without any context I could still identify it as her work. Maybe that is because I loved 30 Rock but in any event this book is thoroughly Tina. In the book she discusses more of her personal life than I have ever read before. I loved that she opened up so much. As can be expected, she wove her unique sense of humor into the stories of her upbringing.
Tina Fey’s sense of humor is interesting. It’s smart, fast, and filled with pooping and farting. That is right up my alley. Tina uses the books to talk about her philosophy too. It’s a very simple outlook- people should be treated equally. Specifically, she talks about being a female comedian and overcoming the stigma that women aren’t funny. She is exactly right in her assessment that women are just as funny as men. She describes herself as a feminist and as I listened to the book I could imagine a lot of people I know complaining about her speaking out. I can imagine, quite easily, people calling her a “femi-nazi.” If a feminist is someone who thinks that women are capable of doing the same job as men, then I suppose I am a feminist too. High school me is really confused right now but that’s ok.
If you like 30 Rock or nerdy poop jokes, this book is for you. I’ll read and/or watch anything she does.
