I Don’t Know What You Know Me From: Confessions of a Co-Star by Judy Greer

My sister (Caitlin_G) lent me I Don’t Know What You Know Me From: Confessions of a Co-Star, by Judy Greer, after she finished it. Unlike (apparently) most people, she and I both know exactly who Judy Greer is. Still, I think we identify her in different ways. To me, Judy will always be Tom Tom, Jennifer Garner’s frenemy from 13 Going on 30 (one of my favorite movies, for which I feel no shame). I think Caitlin may know her best from Arrested Development (we’ll have to see when she posts her review of the book). Judy mentions this phenomenon in her memoir: people on the street ask her why she looks familiar all the time. While she’s not psychic, she claims she could probably figure what people have seen her in based on a few questions about their tastes in TV and movies.

Judy comes off as very humble and appreciative of what fame she does have. She mentions that while she’d love to star in a movie or TV show, that she does appreciate the fact that she can usually fly under the paparazzi’s radar. She talks a lot about her upbringing, her schooling and her early career. What I liked most, however, was towards the end, when she focused on her new husband and stepkids. She describes how she meet her husband (blind date) and how they’ve worked out their relationship and his joint custody of his two children. It’s kind of an unusual situation, but it seems to work. She says about traveling for work, “Being homesick is good─it means I am happy in my real life.” She seems like a genuinely happy person, and it was fun to dive into her life for a bit. I bet she’d be a lot of fun to hang out with!
