I DID laugh at Mindy, and while uneven, felt the book had enough redeeming qualities to make it a fun read for me. Sure there was a bit of observational humor but I actually found the stories of her youth as a “chubby Indian kid who couldn’t ride a bike” really interesting. I felt like we were having brunch and she was telling all these great stories about how she got her job on the Office, what really shows up in all those glamorous-looking celebrity gift bags, and how she’s come to accept her weight in a culture that nitpicks every small physical flaw. I did laugh a few times but more than that, I enjoyed having brunch with and listening to Mindy’s stories.
I can respect that. I just wasn’t too enthralled by any of her stories. I really did want to, to find something about it that would make it work for me, but I couldn’t. She’s just not for me is all.
You’re back! I was worried.
Thanks! I’m touched by your concern. It was just a combination of having a hard time finding the motivation to write them and a whole host of other things. But I had two days off in a row, and the last couple times that happened I told myself I was going to get some reviews done and I didn’t and this time I didn’t want to be that lazy again.
