It’s Frankenstein’s Monster! Hunting Other Monsters!

November 20, 2014 by anevilweasel Leave a Comment

monsterThis is the third in a series of the chronicles of “MHI”  –  “Monster Hunters International”.  This is a very action oriented series, it has witty dialogue, excellent character development and a lot of brutal violence. So be warned. The author is very detailed in his portrayal of tactical weapons; guns, knives, ammo, etc.  Not much of a surprise as he lists his occupations as gun dealer, firearms instructor and owns a company that contracts weapons work to the movie biz.    Even if you are not into that, it’s still pretty impressive how well writes this into the stories – even I now know what a Browning 1911 is.  I may be a screaming liberal from a blue state, but I can totally get into these stories and into the guns and the violence. After all, when Cthulu or his spawn is after you, you want some serious firepower.

In the world created in this series of novels, there are monsters. To combat these monsters and save humanity from the screaming void, there are a number of both privately funded and government funded teams of “Monster Hunters”.  It’s a very dangerous job, but the hunters (or agents in the case of the Government orgs)  are well compensated by the very rich bounties  that are set on each monster.  Previous tales from the MHI have focused on the private group;   “MHI”, but  this story focuses on Agent “Franks”  who works for the US Government agency that oversees “monster hunting”.  Agent Franks is quite the character – depending on your point of view, he is either a monster, or a bad guy who happens to be on our side. Or maybe a good guy which a very violent streak. Your call.  This story goes deep into his story – which is fascinating.   As you may have guess from the title and from his name – the “monster” here is the one created by Frankenstein.   So what is that like  – to be him, to have lived through his creation, the hatred, the hundreds of years since his creation and now to be working for the US of A Gov’t.   And how does he keep things “fresh” with regard body parts? hmmm.    And of course how does he save the world from the “Nemesis” of the books title? .   Well, you will just have to find out

I really love all of Larry Correia’s books and this is no exception.
