This is yet another of the 50th Anniversary books, one for each Doctor. This one has the 10th, plus Donna Noble and her family. The writer, Gary Russel, worked on Doctor Who, Torchwood, and Sarah Jane Adventures, so he’s familiar with the concepts, and does this sub-genre proud.
Donna is home, getting ragged on by her mom, and catching up with her grandpa Wilf. He’s having a great time, because he has discovered a new star, and he got to name it. Wilf invites the Doctor to the ceremony as his special guest. But is that new star a real new star, or is something else going on up there? The Doctor (of course) has his suspicions.
The “chaos” of the title refers to some kind of astronomical phenomenon that people are very excited about. Which raises the Doctor’s suspicions even further. While Donna, Wilf, and the Doctor are doing the thwarting thing, we also get to see inside the Noble family, and what made them the way they appeared to be in the show. The story also introduces a great character, a lady friend of Wilf’s, who will pretty much break your heart.
If you love Donna Noble & her grandpa Wilfred Mott, you will enjoy this book. Even if you don’t, you will enjoy this book. It’s very well written, definitely the best of the 50th anniversary books that I have read thus far.
