Yes this is like Tolkien! a bit….in a graphic novel…with perhaps a bit more humor but also with depth and ancient evil and dragons and plot twists and cow racing!
This was another recommendation from iO9. Graphic Novel. HUGE fat thing at 1300 pages -it’s the compilation of ALL the Bone comics which were apparently released over 10 years – 1994-2004. An epic fantasy saga – very funny, clever, good story telling. To summarize: “After being run out of Boneville, the three Bone cousins, Fone Bone, Phoney Bone and Smiley Bone are separated and lost in a vast uncharted desert. One by one they find their way into a deep forested valley filled with wonderful and terrifying creatures”. Yeah, so that sort of tells you a bit about what’s going on, but there is a lot more to it than meets the eye. This book is a bit deceiving at the start, the main characters – the Bone Cousins – are pretty comical -both in the way they are drawn and their mannerisms. But this story is deep and well told and it’s got a lot more going on than just some comical yutzes. Ancient kingdoms, prophecies, dragons, hidden princesses, hooded evil, secret societies… quite the tale. Glad I was able to buy it all at once and not have to wait 10 years!
