Lord Peter Wimsey book 1

December 30, 2014 by Walking Widdershins Leave a Comment

Lord Peter Wimsey gets a call from his mother (the Dowager Duchess of Denver, say that 5 times fast), to tell him of some troubles a man of her acquaintance is having. Seems he found a dead body in his tub. The police think he (Thipps) did it, or maybe his servant. Lord Peter thinks otherwise, and starts poking around.

He’s also working on the disappearance of Sir Reuben Levy, a financier. While all this is going on, there’s a bunch of trading in Peruvian oil. Is it all somehow connected?

And how is all of this connected to surgeon and neurologist Sir Julian Freke (aptly named?). Have there been some medical shenanigans to go with the murder and mayhem?

This is the first Lord Peter Wimsey book, and my first encounter with him as well. He’s certainly eccentric, and he’s suffering from what’s now called post traumatic stress disorder. His valet takes care of him admirably, and helps with all of the sleuthing. I will definitely be diving further into the series in Cannonball 7.
