For Christmas this year I got my 8 year old nephew the Percy Jackson books. I’ve seen trailers for the movies and heard a little bit about the books to figure he’s about the right age for them (and is already reading the first Harry Potter one.) He was happy and went on his merry way. Then a couple weeks ago, my husband is cleaning out stuff in the basement and finds the first book down there! I figure, well, might as well read it so that I have something to talk to the kid about next time I see him. I didn’t really have any expectations going in, which worked out well and I was happily surprised by how much I enjoyed it.

Oh, I really like these books. They’re really nothing special, but I just find them so enjoyable.
That’s exactly it! I can speed through them, but they’re still really fun. I get why kids love them.
We got my son that collection for Christmas, and I am reading it to him right now. I am really enjoying it, and am demonstrating some restraint in not reading ahead.
You are strong! I don’t think I’d ever be able to do that.
