OMG #didn’tlikeitmuch

January 13, 2015 by chatelaine Leave a Comment

Yeah, I don’t know what all the fuss is about. Admittedly, I don’t read much in this genre and picked it up mainly because it’s set in Detroit.

It’s in extremely short sections following the story as it unfolds among 5 or 6 different characters — I don’t even remember and I don’t care. The author weaves the different components together well, and a couple of the characters are as appealing/unappealing, as they need to be. There’s a supertough detective, you see, who’s on this crazy homicide case, the details of which I shall not share in case you read it, but which are sufficiently insane to be interesting. Serial killer! Smart but troubled and undersupervised teenaged daughter! Formerly homeless guy who’s heroic! Dumbass wannabe famous dude!

I just didn’t care. And there’s way too much emphasis on the various social media platforms and tech devices, including entire transcripts of text “conversations” which will just make this book seem dated in about a week.

Whatever. Maybe you’ll like it. It seems I’m in the minority.

exasperated mom of teenager, haphazard housekeeper, decent bartender I've allowed reading, once my favorite of all activities, to fall by the wayside in favor of much less enjoyable pursuits. CBR helped me with that once before, plus, y'all are an endless source of fantastic recommendations. 2019 update: So I'm reading more but my CB10 participation was abysmal. It might happen this year. It might not. View chatelaine's reviews»
