“My biggest secret of all—the one I would rather die than tell, the one I wouldn’t even put in my diary—is that I really, truly, in my heart, want to be beautiful. I want to be beautiful so much—because it will keep my safe, and keep me lucky, and it’s too exhausting not to be.”
This is my first CBR year and my first attempt at a book review, so be kind, and only throw the softest and freshest of vegetables my way. Fortunately, I made it easy for myself and picked up Caitlin Moran’s How to Build a Girl. Unfortunately for everyone else, it was so damn enjoyable that I couldn’t shut up about it.
Great review! Welcome!
This has been on my radar for a while now, but I’m bumping it up, thanks to you. How can I resist now that you’ve held it up comparably to Moab is My Washpot?!?
I hope you enjoy it as much as I did! I mean, not only is Fry a clear influence of hers, but she actually name-checks him, too, so…
Excellent review. Welcome to the Cannonball Read. This book would actually fit really nicely into my Monthly Keyword challenge this month (as well as into a whole bunch of the other terrifyingly numerous challenges I’ve decided to sign up for this year). I shall add it to my shortlist for the month.
Hey, thanks! What are some of these terrifyingly numerous challenges? Should I be scared for you?
Because I’m completely drowning in correction work this week, I haven’t been able to do my end of year review for 2014 yet. After that I will do official sign-up posts – I’m doing an A to Z challenge, a TBR challenge, Colour Coded Reading Challenge, Historical Romance Challenge, Monthly Keyword and Monthly Motif Challenge, a comic book/graphic novel challenge, “How Many Books Do You Read” Challenge, one that focuses on completing various series – I keep finding new and interesting-looking ones. I think I’ll be doing about 18 different ones or so over the course of the year. (many of which luckily overlap).
I completed 12 different ones last year, as well as completing 138 reviews for CBR6. I may have a Reading Challenge problem (one of the challenges IS the Reading Challenge Addict Challenge!).
Oh my word, how do you do it? I barely made a single Cannonball last year!
You make pretty words. Also, I’m going to borrow this. Soon.
Welcome to the Read! Fantastic review. I already have this book on my to read for Cannonball 7 list, but you just made me check to see where I slotted it. Its still a few months away, but now I’m even more excited.
This book is currently $1.99 on Amazon, so I spent some of my precious Christmas gift voucher money on it, based primarily on your review!
