Arr. On Stranger Tides was my first Tim Powers and I loved it. Also, I was between 14 and 17 at the time (I don’t remember exactly), and all I remember is that I loved the mix of “pirates ! ” and “magic !!”. Anyway, I don’t remember this fainting lady at all. So much sexism I used to gloss over then. I guess I wouldn’t like the book that much now. (Come to think of it, a lot of the sf and fantasy I read as a teen probably wouldn’t be as enjoyable if I read it now.)
