Love Until Later

Sometimes, after a particularly disappointing book, you need to bring in a ringer.

Why Girls are Weird is Pamela Ribon’s first novel which was inspired by her early 2000s blog Pamie.com. It is the story of Anna Koval who creates the online persona Anna K to learn HTML and create a collection of funny stories for a friend’s birthday gift. She sprinkles fact and fiction throughout her website, her most deceitful lie is telling her public she is still in a relationship with her ex-boyfriend Ian. She gains several loyal followers and begins communicating with two in particular. Tes is a college student who becomes a bit fanatical about Anna, she creates her own blog to mimic Anna and goes so far as to meet her in person to get a more in-depth look into Anna’s life. LDobbler is the screen name of a man who stumbles upon her site while looking for something his niece may want for her birthday and becomes smitten. Their flirtatious online relationship begins to complicate many of the lies Anna has told in her online journal.
Having read this a few times I knew right away to hate Tess, her character becomes increasingly irritating as the story progresses. LDobbler is so funny and self-deprecating, it’s hard not to fall in love a little in love with him. Why wasn’t there a sequel Pamie? Just a quick update for those with lingering questions about Anna and LD!

Why Girls are Weird is both sad and funny while being completely witty and charming. You want to hang out with Anna and maybe smack her upside the head while you’re there. It’s an easy book to pick up one evening and finish the next. Just what I needed to cleanse my literature palette.
