And look! He just brought you a dream!

July 30, 2015 by janniethestrange Leave a Comment

Mr. Gaiman is one of those adventurous creators who sees no reason why his tales shouldn’t embrace slapstick comedy, mystical musings, and the grimmest collection of serial killers this side of death row.–Clive Barker in the Introduction to The Sandman Vol.2: The Doll’s House

Is there a way I can give this 6 stars? Holy guacamole this was a fun book. There was all that stuff and more in these gems. Dream discovers that there are some denizens of his realm that have gone missing and he intends to get them back. PDQ. Well as PDQ as that ethereal being ever does anything. There are rules you know.

The over arching story of Rose Walker–who turned out to be the granddaughter of Unity Kinkaid!–was absorbing and breathtaking. I loved how things were parsed out throughout the book, fiddlers though I’m sure I would have been barking mad if I had to wait for monthly installments, and the resolution (or is it?) was rather satisfying. Sometimes Rose got on my nerves, so it was great to have her take such a journey because when this book came to an end I had come around about her.

In between and before there were great mythological stories, some truly icky and evil serial killers (who were meeting at a Cereal Convention…cover dollswink wink, nudge nudge) and someone I hope to see again, old Hob. My mind reels with all the stuff I get and stuff I’m not getting!

I don’t have an older issue of this book to compare with specifically, but so far these fully recolored editions are just stunning. I am so glad I decided to go back to these treasures. And this is just the story so far…….
