Who’s Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf?

September 9, 2015 by ModernLove Leave a Comment

The thing about sequels, or any book that comes after the first in a series, is that you’re never quite sure how they’re going to stack up to the first. Obviously, the first was good enough to get you to come back for more, but will it be as you remembered? Will the characters and story not only hold up, but progress? That’s the tricky part, I think. Sequels have to be better, have to push the story further along and really get you invested. A reader already has expectations now, so it’s up to the author not only to meet them, but to exceed them. I read the first book in the Lunar Chronicles series in the spring, and over vacation a few weeks ago, I picked up the second. As far as the pressure of sequels goes, Meyer stepped up and while she didn’t knock it out of the park, it was a solid line drive that got the runner to the next base.
