Miss Marple’s lovely (and wealthy) nephew has sent her to an island in the Caribbean for a nice holiday. Except there’s no such thing as a “nice holiday” if you’re in an Agatha Christie novel.
There’s quite a cast of characters at the Golden Palm Hotel. Miss Marple meets Major Palgrave, who loves telling stories about his past – many of which may not be true. He offers to show her a picture of a murderer (not knowing about her history with the murdery stuff). They’re interrupted, and she doesn’t get to see the picture. And the next day? He’s dead. Who could have done it? At least 6 people heard him say the thing about the murderer, which means that one of the people at the resort is the person in the picture.
So Miss Marple sleuths on, with the assistance of Mr. Rafiel, a very wealthy invalid who’s pretty nasty, but also pretty amusing and very sharp. There’s at least one more murder, and an attempt or two. Miss Marple runs around the resort (the book says “run,” but I keep picturing her tiptoeing around) in some kind of pink knitted scarfy thing (I mean, really, a scarf in the Caribbean?). She is Nemesis, and she will find out the truth.
So, my Marple journey continues. Terribly fun and enjoyable.
