They Call Her Nemesis

In between her trip to the Caribbean and this story, Miss Marple stayed At Bertram’s Hotel in London, and solved a lovely little murder there, but I’m pretty sure I’ve already reviewed that one. Which brings us to Nemesis. Yes, Nemesis. That’s what Miss Marple called herself in the Caribbean when she was bringing a murderer to justice. If you recall, her compatriot in A Caribbean Mystery was a Mr. Reifel, a very rich invalid. He pops back up again in this story.

Well, after a fashion. Mr. Reifel has died – but he left Miss Marple a legacy. But first she must fulfill a task – she must mete out justice. She has been given no other information than that. Miss Marple tries to figure it out, and starts doing a little sleuthing. Then she receives information that she is being sent on a bus tour of fancy houses and gardens, paid for by Mr. Reifel. She knows that this must be leading her to what she needs to do.

On the trip are some people who may have also been placed there by Mr. Reifel – but for what purpose? Then, when the tour makes a stop in a town for a few days, Miss Marple meets Lavinia Glynne, and is invited to stay with Ms. Glynne and her sisters. This invitation was prompted by a letter from Mr. Rafiel before he died. Hmmmmm.

Miss Marple learns some interesting things from the sisters and the people on the tour that enable her to piece together the mystery that Mr. Reifel left for her. In true Marple fashion, she earns her legacy, and plans to have some fun with it. Good for her.
