Compelling Short Story

The only disappointing thing about this story is that it ended so soon. I got this for my Kindle having no idea that it was such a short book. I am a big fan of Gillian Flynn and jumped on this when I saw it. However, for such a short book it was very compelling. Alert for parents – this book has some mature themes that may not be appropriate for children/teens.

This book tells the story of the narrator who is a bit of a fraud. She meets a woman at the psychic/sex shop where she works and agrees to help her “cleanse” her house. The typical twist-and-turn style of Gillian is evident throughout this story as readers get a glimpse of the story from different angles. In the end it is still hard to decipher the true story of what in happening in this short story. The only thing we know for sure is that the narrator was being manipulated by someone. Whether it was the mother or step-son doing the manipulating is unclear at the end.

Highly recommend this story for anyone interested in psychological thrillers and looking for a quick read. I was able to get through this on my lunch break.
