Way better than that Jim Carrey movie

January 26, 2016 by badkittyuno 1 Comment

I went out of town for a week on business and read like, six books and have not written any of them up yet. Apologies for the incoming flood!

My “interactions” with Shonda have always been limited to Grey’s Anatomy, which I love dearly and have watched all the way through several times (I like to leave shows on when I’m cooking and cleaning, and pretty much rotate through Grey’s, Gilmore Girls and Scrubs). I’ve never gotten into her other shows (I’m a lazy TV viewer and would rather watch the same show 100x over than watch anything new…), but you could easily enjoy this book even if you’ve never heard the name Shonda.

Caitlin_D reviewed this a few days ago, so you may remember the basic plot: Shonda’s sister tells her at Thanksgiving that Shonda never says “yes” to anything — specifically referring to Shonda’s introverted tendencies, compounded with her crazy schedule. Shonda decides to make some serious changes, and tries saying yes to things that scare her, like meeting the president and speaking at a graduation. She also tackles some serious emotional problems that she’s been avoiding, and gets herself physically and emotionally healthier in the process.

A lot of it basically boils down to “famous people can be introverts, too!” But Shonda has led an interesting life and she has a fun, easy way of writing that I enjoyed. I also really liked the small snippets of behind the scenes at Grey’s.

Did you see that she won a lifetime achievement award recently and basically accepted it by saying “I deserve this”
