A Cinderella story

February 23, 2016 by Malin 5 Comments

An Offer from a GentlemanAn Offer from a Gentleman is Julia Quinn’s Cinderella retelling and it is absolutely delightful. Of all the Bridgerton books, this one is my absolute favourite. Benedict is a wonderful hero, who literally comes to the rescue of victim of circumstance Sophie more than once, yet while she needs saving every so often, she is so strong and resilient and stands up for herself so admirably throughout the book.

Pretty much hates Modernist lit and stream of consciousness writing, yet married a man whose favourite book is James Joyce's Ulysses, so there you go. Strongly opinionated about many things. This was my first Quinn and the first new novelist I liked when I started reading romance again in 2012.set a really high bar. I think my review summed it up well: I may even have taken a reading break to run into the living room to yell at Mr. Julien, “OH MY GOD! I LOVE THIS BOOK!”

I LOVE Cinderella adaptations and variations. I believe it dates back to getting the Disney cartoon on VHS when I was a toddler and wearing the video out. I think I would enjoy this story–I’ll check it out. And I’ll be recommending it to my mother-in-law, who will be needing something after she’s burned through her last Courtney Milan book.
