Oh, the feels

February 1, 2016 by NVVN 4 Comments

Confession time: I was a lonely kid.  My childhood wasn’t the greatest and tons of bad things happened.  My toys and cartoons were my best friends.  I’m not sure where I’d be if I didn’t have those little things.  I think things would have been so much better if I had a Little Robot.

There’s a little girl who lives in a trailer park.  We don’t know how old she is, but she’s apparently too young for school since there’s a scene where she watches the older kids get on the school bus.  She’s all alone and basically wanders around the area trying to find ways to entertain herself.  She stumbles upon what looks like a pot and instead finds a robot friend.  The little robot is supposed to be at a factory, so a big, pound catcher type of robot comes looking for it.  Little robot gets captured and the little girl must rescue her new friend.  Guess what?  I haven’t given anything away.  That’s not what this story is about.  It’s about friendship, doing the right thing, being a good person and being afraid.  It’s also about wondering where the sam hill the parents are, but that might just be me.

I think this book is perfect for pretty much anyone.  There aren’t many words, but that’s okay because the facial expressions more than make up for it.  I admit to shedding some tears at the end because the whole story is just so freaking sweet and my inner child really wanted to be friends with the characters.  I also wanted to hug the beejezus out of the little girl, but again, that might just be me.  If you have a kid, share this book with them.  Even better?  Get it for yourself.  You deserve some feels.

Ben Hatke and everybody should buy all of his books because they’re delightful! Please go check out all three of his Zita books. Also wonderful for all ages.

I did get this from the library, and it was lovely. Thanks for the recommendation! No wonder it got five stars.
