Gilley needs to be smacked

March 2, 2016 by NVVN Leave a Comment

MJ and her husband Heath return from vacation to find a cursed dagger is missing from their safe.  Turns out their friend Gilley loaned it to a museum because Gilley lacks sense.  Gilley is terrified of the supernatural and yet thinks it’s perfectly okay to loan a cursed dagger to a museum.  Naturally, the dagger is stolen from the museum, the ghost/demon inside of the dagger is set free and a museum worker is killed.  Nice work, Gilley!

Oh, but the fun has only just begun!  Turns out the super nasty ghost is releasing other super nasty ghosts from the depths of hell and guess who they all hate?  That’s right, MJ and Heath!  What’s Gilley’s excuse for helping to release hell on earth?  He needed the money to help pay for his wedding.  Weddings are expensive, y’all, so go ahead and loan out your cursed daggers.  That aren’t even yours.  That contain a ghost and demon that almost killed you and your friends and that they just barely managed to send to hell the first time around.  Totally worth it to have the best fish or steak options at the wedding.

So, MJ, Heath, a reluctant Gilley and a suspicious cop try to corral the ghosts and stop anyone else from being murdered.  Oh, and Gilley has to plan his wedding.  There will be lots of nasty ghosts, some horrible physical attacks (the ghosts attack a bird.  A bird!), a new friendship, a bit of humor and some life changes.  Gilley does do some intelligent things, which makes you wonder how he could be so freaking dumb at the beginning, but I guess it’s wedding brain (is that a thing?)

This is the tenth and final book in the series and I’m a bit annoyed because it ended with me wanting to punch Gilley in the throat.  In the previous novels he could be annoying, but I understood why he and MJ were besties.  Now?  I hope it rains on your wedding day, Gilley!
